Bennington Downtown transforms into a celebration of arts, crafts, activities, food, & entertainment.  In 2019 there will be over 100 crafters and artisans from throughout the Northeast featuring handmade crafts of wood, pottery, glass, metal, fabric, jewelry, and more.  The streets will also be lined with a great selection of food trucks featuring ethnic and American selections and you'll find festival favorites such as fried dough, maple cotton candy, BBQ, blooming onions, and more!

Here in The Shires of Vermont we take our traditions and freedoms seriously.  We also know how to celebrate, focusing on the things that matter the most (family, friends, and community).  Independence Day was about freedom; freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, freedom from fear as was captured by Rockwell’s iconic portraits.  Those portraits along with other Rockwell accolades were painted right here here in The Shires.

Midnight Madness returns on Thursday, July 18, 2019 to Downtown Bennington. This downtown retail extravaganza is a terrific family event and community favorite with incredible bargains all throughout downtown. All downtown shops will reopen at 7pm and stay open late, some until midnight.

Friday, July 19
Downtown Manchester, Vermont

Small town summer at its BEST! On Friday, July 20th head to Main Street for our favorite annual block party. From 6-9 pm rock out to live music, browse the pop-up booths, and sample eats from local food vendors. Bring your BFF, bring the family, bring everyone except the dog. No dogs allowed. Please leave your furry friends at home. Parking available in the municipal lot behind Rite Aid, and at Manchester Elementary School. See you there!

The Battle of Bennington was a battle of the American Revolutionary War, part of the Saratoga campaign, that took place on August 16, 1777, in Walloomsac, New York, about 10 miles from its namesake Bennington, Vermont. Today, we celebrate the brave men that fought for freedom and unity in this brave little state we call Vermont. This weekend is filled with BBQs, Battle of the Pie contests, reenactments, a focus on history and tradition, with it all culminating to the biggest parade in The Shires, the Bennington Battle Day Parade on Sunday.

- 24TH ANNUAL GARLIC AND HERB FESTIVAL -

Saturday, August 31 to Sunday, September 1 - Labor Day Weekend
Camelot Village, Bennington, Vermont

Join garlic-lovers from throughout New England as they come to sample food and crafts from hundreds of different vendors, all made from -you guessed it - garlic and herbs! Everything from garlic ice cream to garlic jelly, pickled garlic, roasted garlic, garlic braids and, of course, plain garlic bulbs of every variety will be available for sampling and purchase, along with planting and braiding and cooking demonstrations.

For aspiring gardeners, garlic growers, garlic-lovers or those simply looking for a fun way to spend a Vermont end-of-summer day, the event promises something for everyone. For the kids there will be face painting, inflatable fun jumps, train rides and other great children's activities. Take time to wander around the spacious lawns sampling garlic delicacies and enjoy the festivities. Relax at Ramunto's Beer and Wine Garden under the tent listening to live music both days!

The Peru Fair began in 1978 as the “end of the world tag sale.” but what had evolved is not what a tag-saler would ever dream of.
